SHENZHEN, China — October 1, 2026 — Huawei officially launched the HUAWEI Mate 90 series today at its full-scenario flagship product event in Shenzhen, putting five new models on sale the very same day at 12:08 PM local time. The lineup — Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design — represents the company’s boldest hardware statement of the year.
“The entire Mate 90 series ships with flagship Tau chips,” said Richard Yu, Huawei’s Executive Director and Chairman of the Device BG. “Through vertical integration of software, hardware, silicon, and cloud, this generation delivers a full evolution in design, performance, imaging, reliability, and intelligence.”
Performance: Logic-Folding Architecture Replaces Traditional Shrinking
At the heart of the series sits a new family of Kirin chipsets built on Huawei’s “Tao Law” (τ) design methodology. Rather than relying purely on process-node shrinking, Huawei’s engineers stacked logic units vertically with high-density interconnects — a technique the company calls logic folding — to dramatically shorten signal paths and boost efficiency.
The tiered lineup includes:
- Kirin 9030 (Mate 90): 27% higher overall performance and 54% stronger GPU output versus the previous Kirin 9020.
- Kirin 9035 (Mate 90 Pro): 20% overall gains with a 51% NPU uplift.
- Kirin 9050 Pro (Pro Max Collector’s Edition and RS): Huawei’s most powerful silicon ever at 31% overall improvement, packing 238 million transistors per square millimeter and a staggering 125 TB/s cross-die bandwidth. The chip supports hardware ray tracing at 55 million rays per second, runs a 30-billion-parameter multimodal MoE AI model fully on-device, and introduces post-quantum cryptographic security through a dedicated Mobile Security Processor.
All models run HarmonyOS 7, with Yu confirming the ecosystem now counts over 450,000 apps and services and more than 90 million devices on HarmonyOS 6 or 7.
Display: The Brightest Panels Huawei Has Ever Shipped
The Mate 90 Pro and above feature second-generation Linglong displays with a peak brightness of 12,000 nits, built on a double-layer OLED architecture that extends panel lifespan by 138%. The Pro Max and RS debut the industry’s first Full-Color Linglong Display, achieving full BT.2020 gamut coverage across the entire imaging-to-display pipeline. A new ambient light sensor enables a 1-nit dark-light comfort mode for nighttime eye protection.
Imaging: Third-Generation Red Maple Across the Board
Every Mate 90 model carries the third-generation Red Maple True-Color camera system — the first to apply infrared optical coating at all focal lengths, improving global color accuracy by 37% and portrait skin-tone fidelity by 62%.
The Pro Max headlines with an 18EV ultra-high-dynamic main camera and a 200MP RYYB periscope telephoto with CIPA 7.5 stabilization for shake-free 20x video. Huawei also unveiled the Ruiying Z10 module camera, an industry-first accessory featuring a 1-inch RYYB sensor and continuous 24–240mm optical zoom with an F2.0–F4.5 variable aperture.
Build Quality: Kunlun Glass and Xuanwu Architecture
Pro models and above adopt the Full Kunlun Xuanwu Architecture: 20x improved drop resistance on the lens cover, 50% tougher front glass, and a new Dynamic Grating Kunlun Glass with 70% better anti-reflective performance and 16x scratch resistance on top variants. The entire series carries IP68 (6m) and IP69 ratings. The Pro Max Collector’s Edition adds a “Floating Gem Ring” crafted from yttrium crystal, reported to be more crack-resistant than sapphire.
Connectivity: Four SIMs, Three Active Lines
A standout feature for business users: the Pro Max introduces the industry’s first four-card, three-standby system, blending physical SIMs and eSIMs so three numbers stay simultaneously live for calls, data, and messaging. Up to four Mate devices can also pool their network connections in weak-signal zones — think high-speed rail stations and stadiums — accelerating downloads and uploads by up to 40%. Satellite support covers both Tiantong satellite calling and BeiDou satellite messaging.
Battery: Built for the Outdoors
The new Outdoor Exploration Mode delivers 36 hours of off-screen trail navigation and up to 15 days of standby in extreme power-saving conditions, paired with automatic SOS via Star Flash and smartwatch fall-detection linkage for emergency situations.
