Common Charging Port Problems and How to Fix Them

A phone that will not charge is frustrating, but the cause is often simple. Dust, lint, worn contacts and bent pins inside the charging port are responsible for many charging faults.

Quick checks before you repair

  • Try a different cable and charger
  • Clean the port gently with a soft brush or wooden toothpick
  • Check for lint packed at the bottom of the connector
  • Look for bent or dark, corroded pins

Fixing the charging port

If cleaning does not help, the charging flex or port may need replacing. Power the phone off, open the device carefully and disconnect the battery first. Remove the retaining screws on the charging board and lift the flex out.

When to replace the port

Loose cables, intermittent charging or a port that only works at a certain angle all point to a worn connector. Replacing the charging flex is a low cost repair that restores reliable charging.
